Heyy!! So this is my first blog, um. I clearly haven't done this before but im excited to just ramble and talk freely where I can about whatever. I have to say, bloggin' has always intrigued me but i get so nervous about spilling my own opinions and thoughts because of how life is for me, so yeah. Also any triggering or possibly controversial content will have a trigger/ content warning first before the actual blog. it will look like this:
Byler: The popular ship pairing between Will Byers and Michael Wheeler, it would have represented a 'finally' for television, showing progress in forms of actually addressing queer struggles ranging from homophobia in the 80's, to compulsory heterosexuality, and much more. Byler was heavily hinted at and deliberately never confirmed or denied. Shippers alike saw the sheer amount of paralleling, the easter eggs, the costume and design techniques, and the overall scenes that were even referenced to other shows. Many of us presumed something would come from byler; some assuming they'd be an actual relationship (or romantic scene), to others thinking there'd be at least a conversation they'd have wtih each other to discuss their yearning and dynamic.
Instead, we were given a singular coming out to a whole massive group of people, some of which Will had never/ hardly spoken to. It was repetitive, it was last-minute, it wasn't honest--I mean sure, Will was being honest about being gay, but come on! It was an... interesting decision the Duffers and other producers chose. Now, did i still find it beautiful and meaningful even if it really did not make sense for Will's character? Sure. I was in fact screaming at the television, praying he would say every word of his truth. I wish I could have cried over it, unfortunately the scene ended just as I started tearing up.
Since I crashed into the Stranger Things fandom, the two of them have meant so much, and not just to me, but to countless other queer people. Byler would have been such a beautiful thing, anyways back to what I originally wanted to say. Will Byers is basically my son, I love his character so much; his experiences, his life, the struggles he's faced, I understand. He is such an artistic character and in a way, I feel very attached to him.
On the other hand, we have Mike Wheeler. And oh boy, it is hard trying to encapsulate my thoughts on him. He is a character I relate to on certain things, and as that suspected Byler build up was happening, I was also learning that I was queer. Michael Wheeler is a character that has a traditional family, with a homophobic father, and is pretty repressed emotionally, he is quite sacrificial for the people he cares about, and has risked a lot simply because he cares. Unfortunately, that means two things: hello twin, he is literally another me, but also the Duffers saw that and immediately made him an awful character. They turned a character that many relate to, many who likely struggle with similar things as he does, and adding queerness onto his character would have been a layer that intersects many of us who relate to Mike, but instead, they chose to make him into an awful friend, an even more awful boyfriend, and just a shell of the guy he used to be.
Yeah... I was recently in the U.S.and as we were driving back to my homeland at the end, there was a TON of chaos. Like... so much happened that it could probably be considered some kind of misfortune. So... two minutes into crossing the border, i get very patriotic for my country (for no reason btw, connecting with your culture will do that to you!!), and I'm like, woah life is good and I'm happy to be back in my nation... I start listening to "Maybe This Time" from the Cabaret Soundtrack! Everything is fine at this point.
A couple hours later, and I'm listening to the song again, now we were in a smaller town on a highway... and we see this dog near the middle of the road. The poor thing is weirdly circling itself, and apparently it had gotten hit before somewhere on its paw or front legs, so it's definitely acting weird. My car easily passes it, not crashing into it... but unlike another car, it goes straight over the poor doggy. I saw the whole thing. 360 view, from my side window to the truck window. Luckily, I only see it simply lying down, so it definitely died but it wasn't gory from my view or anything. I hope that baby went fast and as quickly as humanly possible because it must have already been in gruesome pain.
